South African store owners and wholesalers are poised for the annual shoplifting spree that marks the December holiday. Criminal analysts have however pointed out that staff tend to steal more than consumers. Business training company Astrotech says a new trend appears to be staff offering to sell items to customers for less if they bypass the till. CEO Liza van Wyk says their training programmes on stock control are full as stores prepare for the festive season. She says they also have people attending the course from large construction companies, government departments and hospital groups who are all challenged with back-door losses.
